Design and Technology
Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject that encourages children to think creatively and solve real-world problems, both independently and as part of a team. At Marriott Primary School, pupils are encouraged to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that meet real and relevant needs, taking into account their own and others’ wants, needs, and values.
Wherever possible, learning is linked to other subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing, and art, helping children to see how skills and knowledge connect across the curriculum. Pupils are also given opportunities to explore and evaluate past and present design and technology, considering its purpose and effectiveness, and are encouraged to become confident innovators and risk-takers.
Our Design and Technology curriculum provides a real-life context for learning and allows children to revisit and build upon key skills and knowledge. Through a carefully planned progression from EYFS to Year 6, pupils are inspired to design and create a wide range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems, and food products, all with a meaningful, real-world purpose.
