Modern foreign languages

At Marriott, we believe that learning a modern foreign language provides pupils with valuable opportunities to explore other cultures and traditions, helping them to recognise that people around the world communicate using different languages. Through language learning, we aim to foster curiosity about the wider world, encourage open-mindedness, and develop a genuine interest in learning new languages.

Our French curriculum is designed to build pupils’ confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, while introducing them to a wide range of vocabulary and topics. Lessons are engaging and practical, allowing children to use language in meaningful contexts and develop accurate pronunciation and grammatical understanding.

We aim for our pupils to begin secondary school with a secure foundation in French, covering a variety of key topics and language structures. This ensures they feel confident and well prepared to engage positively with further language learning at Key Stage 3 and beyond.
