Music
At Marriott, we aim to provide our pupils with a practical and engaging approach to their musical learning. We offer a broad range of performance, listening and compositional opportunities across a wide variety of musical genres. These experiences enable children to develop their own musical opinions while building a strong and diverse skill set.
We are passionate about ensuring that our pupils are well prepared to access the Key Stage 3 music curriculum when they leave our school, and we believe that our curriculum fully supports this transition. By the end of Key Stage 2, our goal is for all pupils to be able to play a musical instrument, read and compose using musical notation, and experience a wide range of live and recorded music. Through these experiences, pupils begin to develop their own musical identities.
Our curriculum is carefully structured to allow children to revisit and embed the musical skills and knowledge learned in previous year groups, while extending and developing these through new learning.
Through observing our pupils and drawing on research into the impact of music on a child’s education, we believe that our music curriculum equips children with valuable skills that support success across the wider curriculum and beyond. At Marriott, music learning helps to develop essential life skills such as independence, teamwork, determination, perseverance and patience.
