Writing
At Marriott Primary School, writing is a fundamental part of our curriculum and a key means through which pupils communicate, express ideas and develop their voice. We are committed to ensuring that all children—regardless of starting point, background or need—become confident, fluent and purposeful writers.
Our aim is for every pupil to leave Marriott able to write effectively for a range of audiences and purposes, using Standard English accurately and appropriately. The writing curriculum is carefully sequenced to develop both transcription (spelling and handwriting) and composition (ideas, vocabulary, grammar and structure), enabling pupils to build knowledge cumulatively over time.
Pupils are immersed in high-quality texts and rich language experiences, allowing them to internalise ambitious vocabulary and understand the impact of language choices. We place strong emphasis on the writing process, ensuring children understand how to plan, draft, edit and improve their work.
Through meaningful and engaging contexts, we foster a love of writing and ensure pupils see themselves as capable writers, prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond.
