Safeguarding

At Marriott the safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We are committed to creating a school environment where all children, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstance, are safe, valued, and respected.

We take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. This includes protecting children from harm, abuse, neglect, bullying, and discrimination, as well as supporting their emotional, social, and online safety.

Our staff are trained to recognise concerns early, act swiftly, and follow statutory guidance to ensure all children can learn and grow in a secure, nurturing environment. We have robust policies in place for ensuring the wellbeing of our children. These policies adhere to Keeping Children Safe in Education(KCSIE) 2025 and underpin our practice and values shared by every single member of staff in our school. These can be found in the policies section of the website and copies are available from the school office.

“Staff understand fully their responsibilities to report any concern they have. Leaders, in turn, have an excellent oversight of all vulnerable pupils. They can explain with precision the actions they have taken.” Ofsted Report May 2022

We work closely with our families, the community, and local agencies to provide the support every child needs. Everyone – staff, parents, volunteers, and visitors – has a role to play in keeping our school community safe. Our pastoral team, alongside any member of staff are always happy to help with any concerns you may have.

If you have a safeguarding concern about a child or an adult working in school, please do not hesitate to contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or alternatively contact the children’s social care team on 0116 454 6520.CASP: https://www.leicester.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/support-for-children-and-young-people/children-s-social-care/

All concerns are taken seriously, and you will be supported when raising them. There is always a DSL available at school– they are easily identified by their red lanyards.

Policies and Procedures are also in place to deal with allegations against staff as well as whistleblowing. Please see the Low Level Concerns and Whistleblowing policies in the policies area. All staff have had training and know to contact the Headteachers in the first instance if there is a concern about a staff member or the Chair of Governors, Steve Wilson, if there is a concern about the Headteachers. Headteachers will contact the  Local Authority Designated Officer (L.A.D.O.) for further advice. Any member of staff can also seek whistleblowing advice from the NSPCC.

Safeguarding in the Curriculum

Age appropriate PSHE/RSE lessons provide the best context for this learning. As part of a whole school approach these lessons contribute to safeguarding by:

·       Teaching pupils about healthy relationships and helping them recognise unhealthy relationships

·       Helping pupils recognise inappropriate behaviour towards them or others and to access help

·       Raising pupils’ awareness of abuse and gender-related and gang violence

·       Addressing gender stereotypes and challenging the negative attitudes which lead to violence and abuse

·       Teaching the language, skills and strategies that enable pupils to tackle and mitigate risks to their (or others’) physical or emotional safety, including bullying, unhealthy relationships, sexual exploitation, gangs, radicalisation, drug and alcohol use and other risky behaviours

·       Teaching the knowledge, understanding and skills pupils need to keep safe online

·       Broadening pupils’ understanding of concepts such as consent, equality, discrimination, power and exploitation as part of a broader curriculum

·       Helping pupils to support and seek help for friends who are in unsafe situations

·       Helping pupils to see how their own behaviour can at times put others at risk.

·       Supporting the development of personal attributes such as self-esteem, resilience and self-confidence and skills such as managing risk, decision making, emergency aid.

If you have any further questions or need any further support please approach any member of staff.
